Hoàng Lê Minh Dũng (MD)
Clinical Psychologist Registrar
MD is a Clinical Psychologist Registrar and an Australian Research Council M.Phil./Ph.D. Scholar at the University of Sydney. Born in Vietnam and raised across Australia and the United States, MD’s journey into Psychology was shaped by a profound observation of how history, war, and migration sculpt the human psyche. Having lived and practised in five countries, he brings a global perspective to The Psychology Alley, rooted in cultural humility and a scientist-practitioner lens.
MD’s path was inspired by his family’s history of navigating inherited trauma and the complexities of dual heritage. Witnessing the intersection of displacement and mental health stigma within his own community motivated him to pursue Clinical Psychology as a means of fostering systemic change. This background fuels his commitment to supporting those whose distress is shaped by broader social structures or the experience of being "othered."
MD is fluent in Vietnamese and is passionate about providing culturally resonant care to the Asian-Australian community.
Clinical Approach & Expertise
MD utilises a bio-psycho-socio-technical model, looking at wellbeing through the lenses of biology, psychology, environment, and the role of modern technology. His approach is integrative and evidence-based, drawing from the Unified Protocol, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, and Schema-Informed Therapy.
He is particularly passionate about working with:
Helping individuals navigate the echoes of adverse childhood experiences.
Supporting the LGBTQIA+ community and those exploring diverse expressions of sexuality.
Assisting those navigating the tensions of dual heritage and migrant experiences.
Outside the Clinic
To maintain his own balance, MD immerses himself in the arts and mindfulness. He is a lover of classical music and a frequent visitor to the Sydney Opera House. He also practises Zen calligraphy and is an aspiring photographer, often found exploring Sydney’s natural landmarks with his Fujifilm camera. He genuinely believes that finding beauty in the tactile and the present is as vital to health as any clinical intervention.
